Reviews

Susan Hill is the grande dame of English supernatural fiction
Financial Times||No one chills the heart like Susan Hill
Daily Telegraph||Part of the fear she conjures up is a sense that this could happen to anyone
Scotsman||An assuredly chilling ghost story
Guardian||Possesses a timeless austerity ... the very simplicity of Hill's unveiling of her story in Dolly imposes an awful inevitability on the action ... suitably wintry atmospheric storytelling
Spectator||As accomplished and effective as the rest, not tired in the least even if there is a cunning formula at work ... Best read at night for full effect
Independent||Perfectly creepy ... a real chiller
Saga||Susan Hill is the queen of the traditional ghost story and this one has a beautifully crafted creepiness ... Superb and scary
