Davidson taught metalwork, silversmithing and jewellery at the Glasgow School of Art from 1897 to 1935. His book Educational Metalcraft followed the tradition set by Educational Needlecraft as a means of guiding teachers in secondary education in developing metalwork as an artistic craft
