This account of the author's experiences and those of his parents in Leeds during the Second World War are presented in three parts: First his own experiences as a schoolboy when war began (including evacuation in 1939) to being a young worker in an armaments factory when the war ended, then second the writer's father's war service as a civil defence worker and as a solder in the UK, France and Germany, and finally his mother's dual role as housewife and war worker
